Martin Berndt Artist
Martin Berndt has retired to live in the beautiful Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal. Art has always run in his family but it was only recently that he found the enjoyment of working with watercolours. In particular, he enjoys painting steam trains and Protea flowers. His interest in steam trains came as a youngster in junior school in the small town of Colesberg which is situated on the main railway line between Bloemfontein and Cape Town. He spent a lot of time at the station enjoying the passing trains and now enjoys capturing the steam and movement of a bygone age in his art. His daughter, who lives in the United Kingdom, encouraged him to paint Proteas as they have always been a firm favourite amongst South African flowers. These have been painted with much enjoyment and Martin hopes that they bring brightness and colour into people’s homes.
